Are dental implants the right choice for you?
Dental implants are the right solution for a person who is in good health, maintains regular oral hygiene, and has no signs of active periodontal disease. Dental implants are most often not necessary at a young age, but if they are, the patient must be over 20 years of age, as it is only then that the jawbone is fully formed.
More than 95% of tooth insertions are problem-free. After implant placement, a recovery period is needed to allow the bone and implant to grow in fully. This process is called osseointegration and takes about 3 months until the bone is set around the implant. Book your consultation and find out how dental implants can brighten your smile too.
Which dental implant should you choose?
We advise you to choose an implant of proven quality and safety, as lower-priced versions can cause problems with proper fusion to the bone.
At OrthoDental, we rely on 2 implant brands, Neodent and Straumann from Germany. Dental implants of these brands are of proven quality and completely safe in terms of chemical composition and hardness. We offer implants made of titanium as well as ceramic implants.
What is the lifetime of implants?
Dental implants are an investment for life, but you must brush consistently, floss between your teeth, and maintain good oral hygiene at all times. In healthy patients, more than 95% of implants are still present in the bone after 10 years.
How is the implant inserted?
1. Local anesthesia
Local anesthesia is administered before the procedure to ensure that the procedure is painless and without any problems.
2. Incision in the gum
The surgeon makes an incision in the jawbone and gently pushes back the mucosa and the bone with special instruments.
3. Bone bed preparation
Use the appropriate instruments to prepare the bone bed and secure the implant into it. When necessary, the jawbone is also prepared at this stage of the procedure by inserting artificial bone.
4. Stitching the mucous membranes
In some cases, we can remove a tooth and insert an implant at the same time, all in one visit. We will arrange for the mucosal stitch. After the procedure, there may be a slight swelling of the cheek, which usually peaks on the third day and then subsides. The bone takes up to 3 months to heal and grow.
5. Inspection and minor intervention
After three months, when the bone has healed, the patient comes back for a short minor procedure. For this procedure, local anesthesia is also provided, since a small incision is made in the mucosa to remove the implant. Then a small screw is loosened and an element is attached to the implant to connect it to the oral cavity and shape the mucosa.
6. Making the implant crown
After about 2 to 3 weeks, we start to make the prosthetic restoration (the so-called crown). We can place one implant or several implants by making a so-called fixed bridge.
The latest technology and modern approaches to implantology.
At OrthoDental, we use one of the implant placement methods called guided implantology to replace lost teeth. Computer-guided implantology is based on the results obtained by computed tomography (CT).
A three-dimensional image of the jaw allows the dentist or surgeon to virtually place the implants in the ideal positions. CBCT X-ray imaging provides a 3D record with a high degree of accuracy, generating the patient’s anatomy, while the scanner generates the surface of the teeth and mucous membranes.
The role of the computer program is to alert the surgeon to any potential problems associated with the chosen treatment (e.g. proximity to a nerve) and to how long and wide the implant can be inserted into the bone. By combining the two records, the medical team can plan the entire procedure accurately, reliably, safely, and predictably.
Maximum accuracy guaranteed.
Based on this planning, a precise surgical guide is created and used by the surgeon for implant insertion, which determines the location, depth, and inclination of the implant. The surgical guides ensure a level of accuracy of less than a millimeter, which ensures a high degree of reliability in the performance of the procedure.
The benefits of guided implant surgery for patients include:
- the procedures are almost painless,
- the procedure time is shorter, the recovery time is shorter,
- surgical wounds are minimal and heal quickly,
- predictability and reduced chance of unexpected complications.
In addition, OrthoDental uses the latest scanners from Itero, a company at the forefront of digital scanners and computer software. They are used every day in our work with patients and can be used to create every single custom alignment or prosthetic solution down to the smallest detail. They cover all stages of the alignment or tooth replacement process.
Complete tailor-made solutions.
Aesthetically perfect solutions tailored to individual needs are made possible by advanced technology based on scanning (recording) the existing condition, instead of taking traditional impressions.
The modeling and manufacturing of various dental devices and products are done virtually, using 3D technology such as the Sprint Ray 3D printer, which is the leading 3D printer in dentistry in America.
In addition to individual temporary and final crowns, 3D technology is used to produce the bases for temporary or final inlays, onlays, and scales. Digital dental technologies such as intraoral scanners and dental CAD software are easily integrated with the SprintRay printer thanks to the universally accepted STL file format for 3D models.
At OrthoDental, we strive to achieve the highest medical as well as technical standards. Precise planning of the insertion and the choice of both the brand and the shape of the implant are complemented by the best Itero scanners and Sprint Ray 3D printers on the market.
