People are more likely to post when they are very pleased, frustrated or uncertain, so it would be misleading to calculate a \u201cpercentage satisfied\u201d from these comments.<\/p>\n<p>A forum can help you prepare for an appointment. It cannot decide whether you need extraction, interproximal reduction (IPR), arch expansion, fixed braces or clear aligners. This is often strongest after changing to a new aligner. Some users mention a rough edge irritating the tongue or cheek; others report that aligners were much more comfortable than brackets and wires.<\/p>\n<p>A <a href=\"https:\/\/pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov\/38001455\/\">systematic review of pain and quality of life<\/a> found lower pain with clear aligners at some early points in treatment, but not at every time point. Others describe temporary lisping or less clear pronunciation during the first days, particularly with aligners that include additional features. Discussions repeatedly mention planning food, carrying a case and toothbrush and reducing spontaneous snacks.<\/p>\n<p>Aligners work only while they are on the teeth. Hot, sugary, acidic and strongly coloured drinks can affect the material, increase staining or create an unhealthy environment around the teeth. At work or while travelling, carry a protective case and a small toothbrush. Some use IPR\u2014a carefully controlled reduction of enamel between selected teeth to create space.
